Screen printing courses
Rapture & Wright One Day Screen Print Course 2016
9:45am Arrive, Coffee/Tea
10:00am The morning will start with an introductory talk - explaining some of the different methods of printing, illustrated with examples of work by various artists. We will then give a brief demonstration of four of these printing methods; potato printing, lino printing, stencil printing and screen printing and how to get quick and easy results to test your designs.
With these printing techniques in mind we will talk about how to create a simple design and how to turn a design into a repeating pattern.
10:45am Printing demonstration showing how we adapt these simple screen printing techniques to produce our collection of hand printed fabrics.
11:15am Using this knowledge you you will draw up your first design and cut either or both a potato and a lino block.
11:45am Choosing your colours, you will have a go at printing your first design - first testing it on paper, then fabric - looking at how the repeat and different colours work.
12:45pm Break for lunch
1:30pm During the afternoon we will focus on producing a finished screen print onto fabric. Having perfected your design during the morning session, during the afternoon you will:
Cut your screen print stencils and prepare your screen.
Mix your printing inks.
Prepare your fabric for printing.
Print your design.
Above is a brief summary of the day. This is to be used as a guide but we will adapt it to suit, allowing you to work at your own pace and making sure that you get the most out of the day.
Please bring an apron with you and wear warm and practical clothes (you will probably get inky.) Trainers or old, sturdy shoes are best as you will be washing up screens etc and might get a bit wet.
The best designs are often the simplest. If you have an idea for a design please do bring any reference along with you. Do not worry if you have no idea about what you want to design or achieve - we will be there to help and have loads of reference for inspiration.
Plenty of paper and 1m of fabric is included in the price of the course. More fabric can be bought at £15 a meter if you have a larger project in mind.
Refreshments will be available through out the day - tea, coffee, water, squash and biscuits.
Lunch - Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
The day is about having fun and learning to print. If you have any questions about the day please do get in touch.
We look forward to meeting you.
